What Co-Teaching is:
n Providing a second teacher in the classroom to meet the needs of ALL students in an integrated environment
n Both teachers are equally responsible for the learning of all students in the classroom.
n Two or more professionals jointly delivering instruction
n Is based on equality
n requires a shared goal
n includes shared responsibility
n includes shared accountability for outcomes
n Reduces stigma attached by pull-out programs
n Meets the individual needs of students
What Co-Teaching is not:
n Co-teaching is not having “an extra set of hands in the classroom”
n It is not one person teaching while the other person roams around the room providing assistance to students who need help
n It is not an arrangement where one person will teach on Monday and the other on Tuesday
n It is not a convenient means for busy educators to get out-of-class responsibilities completed
